The Watson Foundation has stepped in with a sizeable contribution towards a new roof for Scotland’s oldest squash club.
The Scottish Squash Rackets Club – based in Glasgow’s Maryhill district – had endured a leaking roof for some time.
The situation was further hampered by the pandemic and the closing of sports facilities.
Short term repairs were carried out over the years but it failed to stop damp walls and continued to drain the club of financial resources with the need for constant repairs.
Now a new roof has been installed providing a long-term solution and ensuring the club’s ongoing viability.
Trustees of the Watson Foundation agreed that the appeal for help from the Club met the criteria for help.
The Club has an important community role offering free tuition to local schools with the Maryhill area and across the community.
Club Secretary Paul Paton said: “The reroofing has been a masterstroke as we have now doubled our membership and returned to profitability with funds in the bank. We are hugely indebted to The Watson Foundation.”
